Here is what's been happening around our house since I last updated {unfortunately it's not much}.
Back towards the end of April, I gave our roses bushes a rather large trim. By the end of last summer, they were getting out of hand and driving me nuts. The roses in front of our big picture window where driving Ryan nuts too because the branches were scratching on the glass and causing an awful sound. {This occurred all winter long too :/} I told Ryan that once it was nice enough, it'd take care of the scratching noise once and for all. I waited for the roses to start sprouting a little bit so I knew the best location of where to trim them back. About a week after their haircut, the little sprouts were getting bigger.
I was happy to see that all of my pruning efforts didn't stunt their growth as I was worried when I finished that I might have trimmed them back too far. {I wish I would have taken a post-pruning picture :(} Well by the end of May, these roses showed no sign of my trimming and looked pretty healthy. By May 27th, we had our first rose buds of the season!
A few storms rolled through the area, dropping lots of rain on these bushes and they took off and are so full of blooms now!
It's a little hard to see in the picture above but there are hundreds of little buds that have yet to open! Needless to say, they are looking good!
On May 24th, Ryan and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary by working and then making the long drive back to Minnesota to see our families. It felt so good to be back in Minnesota! We only wish we would have had more time. We got to my parent's house really late Friday night. Bummed around, took a nap, visited my grandparents and had dinner with my parents and Kristin and Dave on Saturday. Woke up Sunday and taught my parents how to FaceTime on my mom's iPhone, drove to Owatonna to check on things/clean the landscaping after stopping in Waseca to have lunch with a couple friends and then drove to Ryan's parent's house. We were able to just relax/nap the rest of Sunday and hang out with Ryan's parents. Thank goodness we had Monday off! We left Minnesota around 2-3ish and drove all the way back to Omaha just in time to do some laundry and prep for work on Tuesday. It was a busy weekend but it was so good to see family. I wish we didn't live so far away!
Last weekend, Ryan and I decided the cats needed help shedding their winter coats. So outside they went were Ryan took the DeFURminator to them. Cooper loved every single second of it and just sat in the grass. Zoey, on the other hand, is a big chicken sometimes, and refused to even be in the grass - ha! Ryan and Zoey came to a truce when she could just stay on the concrete at the bottom of the steps.
We've never hid the fact that Zoey is rather large and at times suffers from kitty-apnea. The other morning, Zoey jumped up on our bed and was so obnoxiously loud that all I could do was grab my phone and try to document it. Listen carefully and you'll hear her loud pur. She is so lovable. How can you not love a cat that purs and snuggles?!?
This is a little out of time order but I had a run of awful "home-call" shifts at the beginning of May. Seven of my 8 shifts resulted in me spending the night in the hospital :/ So much for the "home" part of that call. Oh well. It's complete hit or miss I guess.
Here I am on a Sunday night after a string of what I was "in-house-home-call" shifts. I look exhausted and the the kiddos clearly missed me. They get really cuddly if I've been away for too long :) I love these two furry animals!
I have no pictures of our vegetable garden :( It's coming along....sort of. The rabbits did away with our broccoli and about half of our bean plants. Ryan and I put up rabbit fence but have yet to get around to re-planting the beans and broccoli.
That's about all that's been happening around here. I'm in the home stretch of 2nd year. I've almost reached the top of the residency mountain and in three short weeks I'll be on the down hill slide. I'm so ready for third year but I can't believe that I'm almost half way done with residency. It's exciting and scary at the same time.Alright, gotta go. Ryan just finished dinner :) {Gotta love the hubby who cooks AND does laundry. If he doesn't though, he'll go unfed and without socks :/ Ha!}
