Interesting.

We started off the day going to this physician's house in the middle of nowhere (well at least I think, I was one of the lucky ones to sit in the back of k'hol). We pull up to this guy's house and no one wanted to get out the van as we weren't really sure it was the right place. Wade rolled down his window and asked this lady with dreadlocks if we were in the right - yep we were. We walk into this guy's house/office and bring some lawn chairs into his office. This doc does chelation therapy and I've never been so frustrated/irritated/angry with one of my 'superiors.' Literally from the minute he started talking to us he was trying to convince us that high cholesterol has nothing to do with heart disease and people with low cholesterol actually live shorter lives. Ugh, then he went on and said high cholesterol protects people from HIV - seriously! He also kept asking us if we knew these researchers from 8 or more years ago where he was getting all of his information from. He also went on to say that people with heart disease should not be on low fat diets, blah blah blah. Ugh, I had the hardest time holding my tongue. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore and so I started asking about how researchers were measuring their outcomes, etc and I felt like I couldn't get a real answer from him. He also tried to convince us that statin medications should not be used and the only reason why they are used is because big pharma wants to get paid.

I understand the general concept he was trying to get across - that we should believe everything that we hear/read but in the same respect I firmly believe that you can find research to support and refute almost anything. Not all research is created equal and this is the perfect example. Anyways, this guy does IV (yes IV and not oral) chelation therapy on people. There is no way I would ever let this guy hook me up to an IV and start pumping 'chelators' into me.  Also another thing that was irritating, he proclaimed to be a 'family physician' but he was not even board certified in family practice. Ugh, I could not wait til our 1.5 hours were up with him. When he dismissed us, we walked outside and immediately decided to go get locally made ice cream....ahhhhh :)

And that's all I'm going to say about this morning.

This afternoon Wade and I had class with a DO in Waimea and we had to go an hour early to drop Nick off at the acupuncturist. We had some time to kill so we drove 25 minutes to this place called Tex's to get these donut things called malasadas.  Basically a warm donut stuffed with different kinds of fillings. Soooo good! The DO we met with does a lot of osteopathic manipulation. She was awesome. She was so kind and a really good teacher. She doesn't do any high velocity manipulation like chiropractors do but rather does very low impact manipulation. She realigned my cervical spine as the majority of the vertebrae were rotated. She then asked me if 1) I get a lot of headaches and 2) if I have my neck extended for long periods of time. I couldn't think of anything but after a while I realized that for the past 4 years I have been studying on my stomach with a pillow under my chin {see picture of me studying with Zoey and Cooper a few posts back}. Ha! Oops...I guess I won't be doing that anymore - good thing medical school is almost over! :)

We got home at 630p just in time {well, just kidding, we were 10-15 minutes late - the story of our vacation} to met with our rotation coordinator from the Twin Cities. We had a good conversation about how things were going for the past week and a half that we have been here, etc. We then made a family dinner of shrimp fettucini alfredo with fresh pineapple and garlic bread - YUM! Now we are sitting around drinking bootleggers {I'll write about these some other time} and listening to Meatloaf {lol - I love meatloaf but others here are not so fond}.

I have an unexpected day off tomorrow {YES!} as the chiropractor had to cancel. So I'll be sleeping in :-)
