An update before vacation posts start.

Ryan and I just got into Kauai late last night. We've been getting groceries and hanging out on the beach all day today. I figured before I start blogging about vacation, I should blog about what we were up to these past few weeks prior to vacation.

Most notably, last weekend, we made a trip back to Minnesota to see family. We left Omaha Friday night and got into Ryan's parents house late Friday night. Well, actually now that I think about it, it was likely Saturday morning by the time that we arrived. Ryan's parents are in the middle of remodeling their house so we were anxious to see the progress so far. Their entire upstairs was still mid-remodel but the kitchen was looking good (there were no countertops, no cupboard doors and no applicances, but I can invision it!) We blew up an air mattress and slept downstairs in the living room. Ryan and his dad stayed up chatting and catching up. Apparently, within a couple minutes of me laying down on the air mattress, Ryan's dad thought they were being too loud for me to sleep - wrong - I was stone cold out like a light already - ha! I never have a problem going to sleep that is for sure!

Ryan's car had been at his parents house for several weeks prior to last weekend (Ryan brought a bunch of stuff back to our place in Omaha that required a larger vehicle), so we spent all of Saturday morning digging his car out of the snow and messing with a dead battery. *sigh* Anyways, his car did eventually decide to start and we were on our way to my parent's place.

I didn't tell my parents that we were coming back because Ryan and I weren't completely sure if we were even going to make it back to Minnesota in the first place and then when we were on our way I decided to just surprise them. As we were pulling up my parent's driveway, I said to Ryan "Maybe I should have called. I hope they are home." As we reached the top of the driveway, we noticed several cars in the driveway. They were home alright and all my aunts and uncles on my dad's side were over for dinner!

Normally when we come home for visits, Sophie gets really excited. Once I got inside, I made it to the top of the stairs and I saw Sophie. She looked at me, tilted her head a bit as if to say 'hey, have you been here the whole time?!' and then started to wiggle a little bit. Then she would stop, look at me a little confused and then wiggle a little bit again. She is so stinkin' cute! Just as Sophie made it to me, my mom realized that Ryan and I were standing at the top of the stairs. Boy was she surprised!! Not only did they get a surprise but Ryan and I got surprised as we haven't seen my aunts and uncles since Hillary's wedding at the end of July.

After a few quick hellos, Ryan and I ran into my Grandparent's place. My grandpa just turned 90 and I wanted to wish him a Happy Birthday! He actually spent his birthday in the hospital with pneumonia, but had been released home earlier Saturday morning. When we got to their place, my Aunt Chris was there! It was definitely a family filled weekend!! My grandparents were doing well and my Grandpa looked great. I'm glad that he was able to come home to his place and get some rest. From what it sounded like, they kept him busy while he was in the hospital!

After a little bit at my grandparent's house, we went back to my parent's place for dinner and made it just in time. Oh man, there were lots of laughs during dinner! It was so good to see everyone! I'm glad that we were able to make it back to Minnesota.

We planned on heading back to Omaha Sunday evening, but that changed when we woke up Sunday and noticed there was bad weather moving in. So by mid-morning Ryan and I were back on the road again to Omaha. It was a quick trip but jammed full of lots of family time. By the time we made it back to Omaha, we still had time to do laundry and get ready for the next week. Wish I was closer to home so I would be able to see everyone more often!!
