I'm on vacation this week and my girlfriend Kelsey and I decided to take a trip to San Diego. A trip to get away from the reality of being interns. A trip to
sunny California. A trip to collect more sand for our sand collections :) We left Minnesota bright and early Sunday morning and got into San Diego mid-afternoon. Kelsey and I ate caramel apples for breakfast :)

{Don't judge, we're on vacation!} |
I slept a good chunk on the way out here on the plane :) When we got to our resort and settled in, we went straight for the waterfront. Our resort is in a little bay so the water is pretty mild {and pretty cold}. We sat on the shore and read books while occasionally people watching. The weather here is cooler than I was expecting. I ended up getting sunburned on the left side of my body :( which surprised me as the weather is down right cold sometimes. We ate an earlier dinner at one of the restaurants at the resort...
...and then went to bed early. {I fell asleep at 730p San Diego time!} I slept for 14 hours that first night and the only reason I didn't sleep longer is because the walls to our room are paper thin and the kids next door were having a meltdown!
Once we got up and ate
breakfast lunch, we hung out by the pool for a while, Kelsey read while I *ahem* slept :) We rented a car later in the afternoon and drove a little ways up to coast to La Jolla. We stopped at the ocean but the weather wasn't nearly what I had hoped for hanging out at the beach.

What a life to have a house right on the shores of the Pacific! |
We stopped at a few more places before heading back to San Diego. We made a quick stop at Target so I could pick up something with long sleeves as I packed my suitcase inappropriately and had been freezing up until this time. We went back to the resort, ate dinner and then watch a little tv and went to bed.
Yesterday morning, we the resort at a decent time and headed to the San Diego Zoo. It was perfect weather for the zoo - overcast with a light little breeze from time to time. We walked and walked and walked and walked and walked all over the zoo.
This peacock was on the loose {I'm not exactly sure about the validity of that statement} and wandering around when we walked in the front gates. On a side note - when did going to the zoo get so darn expensive - geez! I wonder how families can afford to do anything with their kids sometimes. Ok, back to the zoo and not my outrageously priced zoo ticket. The first stop was the flamingos. They remind me of my father-in-law who loves them. I'm convinced that he should be living in Arizona.

Don't their eyes look a little creepy?! |
|
It's a baby flamingo! How cute! |
|
They really get their feathers ruffled! |
|
Flamingos not playing nice. |
Just another of the baby, because it is so cute...
We saw lots of monkeys...
Then we saw some crocs...
A cute little Red Panda....
In San Diego, they have purple blooming trees everywhere and they are really pretty.
Here are the rest of my pictures from the San Diego Zoo.

Noted! |
|
Looks familiar! |
|
Are you sure these aren't llamas?! |
|
I felt so bad for this Black Panther. He was just pacing around his small little cage. Made me feel really sad for for him :( |
|
These monkeys are so ugly... |
|
This is the Queen on the pack, sitting there meditating. |
|
This little ape was so friendly and putting on quite the show. |
|
Then he came up and spread eagle on the glass. It was actually hillarious because all the little kids were freaking out. One little girl put her hand so it was blocking his privates and kept so, "oh my gosh, gross, oh my gosh, oh my gosh." Then there was a little boy that said, "Look mom, it's a boy!" Ha! Too funny. |
|
I felt so bad for this polar bear. Definitely not the climate he should have been in. They had sand for him and also spray painted snow :( |
It was a full day and the zoo and both Kelsey and I slept soundly that night.
