We had another busy day yesterday. We got up and on the road early. We decided to make the drive back to the south part of the island and go to Waimea Canyon. We heard and read that you should be there in the early morning because the views can cloud over so we left our condo at seven bells. Waimea Canyon is considered the Grand Canyon of Hawaii. The views were gorgeous! I'm glad that we woke up early not because we missed the clouds but because we missed the crowds. By the time we were leaving the canyon, there were so many people driving in and the lookouts were crowded with people.

A little teaser glimpse while on the drive up. |

This road is not for those who get motion sick. |
It does look like a mini-Grand Canyon. |
This was at the very end of the Waimea Canyon drive. Even though it's one of the wettest places, we didn't have a cloud in the sky over us. |
Ryan sometimes has no fear, but he got a little scared up here. |
On the other side of this ledge, it was a huge drop off. |
Enjoying the peacefulness. |

There were a lot of military posts on this road. |
After leaving the canyon, we went to where the Waimea River meets the Pacific Ocean. It ended up not being as pretty as my travel book made it out to be.
Then we decided to pick one of the nearby beaches and catch some sun. We didn't really read about the beach, we just decided to check it out. The road there was crazy. I was glad we had a four-wheel drive vehicle! We didn't get any pictures of the road there because we were too busy bouncing around. When we finally got to Kawailoa Bay, I was in awe. This was the prettiest beach I've ever seen. These pictures do NOT do it justice and I didn't take too many as I was too busy soaking in the beauty with my own eyes. The water was so clear and the shades of blue were truly breathtaking.
On the way home, we drove through a tunnel made from trees.
We ended the day by going to the Kilauea Lighthouse and whale watching!
Can you see the whale blow hole to the right of the lighthouse? |
You can't see it very well in this picture, but there is a whale flapping one of its fins just to the left of the house. |
And one last picture from our resort last night...
